Program of cultural events of State museum-reserve of Alexander Pushkin «Mikhailovskoye» in Iceland

On October 21-22 the Russian Embassy in Iceland together with State museum-reserve of Alexander Pushkin «Mikhailovskoye» held in Iceland a number of cultural events on the occasion of opening of exhibition «Verse novel “Evgeni Onegin” by A.Pushkin in illustrations of Y.Ignatiev» from Pushkin museum-reserve collection. The opening took place the day before premiere of opera “Evgeni Onegin” by P.Chaikovsky in “Harpa” concert hall in Reykjavik. The opera is produced by National Opera of Iceland and performed in Russian language and this was the first time an opera in Russian was performed in Iceland.

On October 21 Russian Ambassador to Iceland Anton V.Vasiliev and head of the National and University Library of Iceland I.S.Sverrisdóttir addressed guests of the exhibition opening ceremony. Then was hold a conference devoted to Russian poet A.Pushkin's works: philologists and specialists in the Russian language and literature, writer Árni Bergmann and lector of the University of Iceland Rebekka Tr·insd·ttir gave speeches about novel “Evgeni Onegin”. Áslaug Agnarsdóttir, translator from the National and University Library of Iceland introduced research about Icelandic translations of A.Pushkin·s works. Olga Markelova, Russian poet and translator recited her poems, Nadezhda Shablovskaya and Olga Lyzhova, employees of State museum-reserve of Alexander Pushkin “Mikhailovskoye” introduced the Museum·s educational programs and workshops. The event was held in Russian and Icelandic languages. The exhibition of illustrations to novel “Evgeni Onegin” in the National and University Library of Iceland will last till December 31, 2016.

On October 22 employees of State museum-reserve of Alexander Pushkin “Mikhailovskoye” Nadezhda Shablovskaya and Olga Lyzhova held cultural and educational program and workshops for children of both Russian language schools for compatriots in Iceland: goose quill pen writing of quotations from novel „Evgeni Onegin“ in Russian and Icelandic languages; printmaking – Evgeni Onegin and Tatiana Larina portraits, folk-style print.

For further maintenance of cultural collaboration between Russia and Iceland the Russian Embassy and museum-reserve of Alexander Pushkin «Mikhailovskoye» concluded an agreement on cooperation in holding of exhibitions, concerts, etc. in Iceland in 2017-2019.
